Haemorrhoidectomy

Pain/Discomfort

Pain is very normal following this procedure. This can last up to six weeks post procedure. Expect that the first 3 weeks will be very uncomfortable and the pain can be overwhelming at times. You will be given a script for pain relief upon discharge. Take as required. You can also take regular Paracetamol should you require extra pain relief.

Bleeding

Bleeding is also expected for this procedure. This can occur for up to a week post procedure. You can wear a sanitary pad to avoid staining your clothes should you need to. You may also experience some blood and discharge in the toilet. This is normal post procedure.

Bowels

Please avoid constipation following the procedure. It is essential that you avoid straining so not to add to your pain. Drink plenty of water, eat a high fibre diet to keep your stools soft. You may take laxatives if required.
People tend to use wipes instead of toilet paper as this can be soothing following the procedure.

Sitz/Salt Baths

Relief can be found in taking a sitz/salt bath following your procedure. Fill with warm water and add table salt to the water. This shall ease the pain and keep the area clean.
